Image fit - contain

This bases view is working very well, except with the card image. There isn't an option for "Image fit: Contain" as there is in the standard Obsidian card view. This is particularly important for book or film covers.

weird, card height should be different now depending on the image:

Try to reopen obsidian, maybe styles got cached somehow.

The contain works well, but I can't adjust the height with Card Cover Height.

@kmaustral I think the confusion is around what contain is supposed to do here.

Right now there are 2 behaviors:

1. Fixed cover height

   • Card Cover Height controls the image area height manually

2. Image fit: Contain

   • the fixed height is ignored
   • the card auto-sizes based on the image aspect ratio

The screenshot I posted earlier with the side bars shows why I made it work like that: contain + fixed height usually looks pretty weird unless all images have roughly the same aspect ratio. Otherwise you end up with empty bars around some covers.

And if all covers already have the same aspect ratio/height, then setting a separate fixed height doesn't really add much anyway.

So if what you want is still: contain for the image, but also keep custom cover height

then I'm probably still not understanding the exact expected result.

Could you post:

• a quick mockup / annotated screenshot of the expected result
• a screenshot of the current result and your current settings

That would help me tell whether this is a bug, or whether you're asking for a separate layout mode.

It's not useful to have covers that large.

Perhaps if we stick with contain, we can just reduce the size. I hope that's been helpful. Thanks for your work.
