Request: K3b

me again lol this time i was wondering if we could get an appimage of K3b (with the cd dvd ripping/burning dependencies included) ? 👀

i found an appimage of it a couple of days ago but i think its from like 2017... 💀

the software launches normally with the .home and .config folders getting populated, but when i try to burn something i get this error ☹️

tested the k3b version installed from the arch repo and seems to be working fine 🤔

its at 5% writing now and going fine

@pingugaming909 Are you sure the appimage cannot work when you have the archlinux package installed at the same time?

As the issue can be a missing dependency that the archlinux package installed that I did not include in the appimage.

So please let me know the following:

• Does the appimage suddenly work when you install the archlinux package?

• If not, what happens when you extract the appimage --appimage-extract and then run ./AppDir/AppRun? Are you still unable to burn?

• If you are still unable to burn, try deleting a few of the binaries that are in AppDir/bin, one by one:
  growisofs
cdparanoia
  (all the binaries that start with dvd)

well, it looks like that doing this let me go thru with the burning process!

Now make sure to remove the archlinux package and let me know if you can still burn when running ./AppDir/AppRun

And check again if the appimage fails.

k3b was on my list of apps to do an appimage, I checked the repo and I think it's missing packages that allows to burn discs
It needs cdrdao and cdrtools, especially cdrtools since k3b is just a frontend for these command line tools

I don't have a cdrom or dvdrom (since like 2010 lmao), so I'm unable to test these stuff.

Something that worries me, is that a few of these binaries used to burn discs/dvds are actually SUID binaries and those are not easy to bundle, right now the appimage has no suid binary so one has to be careful with what gets bundled.

Right, iirc k3b when launching it gives a warning when it doesn't find a cd/dvd drive. Do have a drive, but can't test burning since I possess 0 blank discs lol

ok so i completely removed the k3b installation that i got from the arch repo and i launched the extracted appimage.
this is what i got when i opened the software

however i tried to burn something anyways and to my surprise its working!

Because made a new release here with a bunch of those binaries that Link PRed to the repo

ok small update!
tried to burn something with the new appimage (with created .home and .config folders) and i got the fist error again
however when i deleted the .home and .config folder the burning process started just fine... 🤔 what does this mean? no idea lmao

the only other thing i can think of is trying to see if i installed some k3b reading/burning dependencies on their own previously and try to remove them but i dont think i did (?) i mean when i installed k3b from the repo i think it pulled everything it needed on its own and when i removed it i used -Rns so i dunno if theres anything left
