PAM with password authentication

Hi!

I working on adding PAM authentication to my server, bit it seems that the regular password authentication method
doesn't support PAM, only keyboard-interactive?

Is there a specific reason for this? I don't really need the keyboard-interactive method, so I thought about only supporting
password auth. Is it possible to use PAM with password auth?

The keyboard-interactive is not supported by the standard modules at all, we have augmented it and allowed for PAM to be used for it. The password method was left with the standard options that allow only for a hashed password to be directly configured in the configuration, no other source of the password is supported. Theoretically, we could augment new sources but seems like a redundant work. What issue do you have with using keyboard-interactive method instead?
