Unresponsive touch screen about a day or 2 after rebooting.

I am running 2 NSPanels using HAOS and ESPHome. The first is 1 to 2 years old and the second is less than 1 year old. The first has developed a problem where the screen is black and unresponsive after several days of normal operation. While the screen is black and unresponsive everything else operates as expected. The 2 mains relays operate from HAOS, the 2 local physical switches are read by HAOS, the local temperature sensor is working and ESPHome firmware updates appear to work.

Normal operation can be recovered by pressing the NSPanel local reset button.

Could you please report this as a bug in the Issues area?
Also, please share ESPHome logs from your device restarting (a few seconds after the restart (including the restart) may be sufficient. 😉

Since my post, I've been trying a few thing. Including upgrading the ESP and the TFT both to 4.3.16. I am more and more convinced this is a touch screen hardware problem. The LCD continues to work in Normal, Dim and Stand By states (I changed the Stand By brightness from 0% to 5% and can now see the clock). If I simply use the NSPanel reset button I do not regain the touch screen function. But if I pull the front of the NSPanel from the wall (power cycle the ESP32 and the Nextron LCD) I regain the touch screen function for hours, maybe days.

So I do not think this is a software bug / issue at this time.

I'm not saying it's impossible, but so far I haven't seen any case where a display died like you are describing, so if it was my display I definitely would try to troubleshoot it before just accepting it. 😉

I took the problem NSPanel apart and noticed I added some kapton tape to the aluminum LCD metal backing to prevent grounding out the programming pins. It doesn't look like it lines up with the conductive sponge taped to a ground pad on the ESP PCB. But I took the kapton tap off to be safe. I reassembled the display and tested conductivity between the ESP shielding and the LCD metal backing. I had to press the PCB hard to get any. So I put bump in the conductive sponge, reassembled the NSPanel and tested for conductance. This time it worked. I've re-installed the NSPanel in the wall. It of course worked. The test will be to see if the touch screen is sill working after 2 days. Thanks for your help! I'll follow up to let people know if providing a good ground between the ESP PCB and the aluminum LCD metal backing fixes the problem.

After a day the NSPanel touch screen is losing sensitivity again. I might swap the front of the NSPanel with my working NSPanel and see if the problem follows the LCD/screen/ESP-PCB.

Do you know of a source for just the NSPanel LCD/screen? Googling for 0350c010-s1e0800 leads me to the Nextion web pages. But that particular number does not appear to be on their web site.
